Dear Campus Community,

UC Riverside remains in phase 2 of our COVID-19 recovery plan, and we are announcing today that we will continue the same modified operations for winter quarter that have been in place for fall quarter.

This means classes will continue to be available in remote formats at least through winter quarter, and any class that is approved to be offered in-person will accommodate students who cannot attend on-campus with a remote option.

Campus housing, research, and student services will also continue in their modified formats as they have for fall quarter.

Since we are continuing the same operations currently in place for fall, employees who have been working remotely should continue doing so. Staff and faculty who are currently working on campus should continue working on campus. If you have any questions about work location, please reach out to your direct supervisor.

In keeping with the process established for fall, instructors who may be interested in proposing a winter quarter in-person course should consult with their department chair and refer to the Instructional Continuity Plan.

Students living in residence halls or other campus housing will receive additional communications regarding the move-in process for winter quarter.

After watching COVID-19 cases upset repopulated campuses across the country, we stand behind the principles that guide our decision making about instruction:
1.    Prioritize the safety of all members of our campus community
2.    Extend access to education to the greatest extent possible
3.    Create flexibility at both the individual and institutional levels

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to adjust operations in a way that prioritizes the health of the UC Riverside community.

Sincerely,

Kim A. Wilcox,
Chancellor

Thomas M. Smith,
Interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
